About the NSDAR

With almost 130 years of tradition, over 1,000,000 members admitted since its founding, a vast array of service work and countless activities taking place locally, nationally and globally, there is much to learn about the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR).

Founded in 1890 with the simple mission of promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism, the DAR remains strong and vitally relevant in this ever-changing world.

This non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization consists of nearly 185,000 members in 3,000 chapters in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and several foreign countries. These vibrant, active women are the heart of our organization.

Membership

DAR members are women who come from diverse backgrounds and hold a variety of interests. Their common bond is their lineal descent from Patriots of the American Revolutionary War. Any woman 18 years or older may join the DAR by documenting her lineage to an ancestor, either male or female, who aided the cause of American independence through military, civil, or patriotic service.
